5 Celeb-Inpired Sparkly Makeup Looks for NYE

by Alexa Tucker

Guys, New Year's Eve is like... now. Don't ask me how this is possible, because I couldn't tell you. Seriously, where did this year go? I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, or, more importantly, what I'm wearing (I can feel the anxiety mounting, people.) What I do know, though, is how I'm doing my New Year's Eve makeup: sparkles and shimmer all the way.

New Year's Eve is the perfect night to break out a fun, bold beauty look. It's an evening of celebration, joy, and all-around merriment, which makes it the ideal setting for a playful sparkly eye. Sure, my go-to makeup for nights out on the town tend to have a little bit of shimmer, but December 31 means it's time to turn it up. It's the end of the year, after all — why not experiment with your look? There's no better way to ring in 2015 than with a sparkle of confidence.

For inspiration for my New Year's Eve beauty look, I'll be turning to one of these five celebrities, who all owned their metallic eyes. Whether I'll go for silver, gold, or another sparkly hue remains to be seen. This decision might actually be more challenging than choosing an outfit, but no matter which one wins, I don't think I can go wrong.

Gold: Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita Nyong'o killed it at the Glamour Woman of the Year Awards in November with this shimmery look. Her makeup artist's secret? Dampening the brush to give the look a little extra sparkle.

Champagne: Candice Swanepoel

This shimmery champagne shadow on Candice Swanepoel has just a hint of peach pigment. Her mauve pout gives the fun look a grown-up touch.

Bronze: Diane Kruger

This look's a bit more subtle, but still ultra glam. Diane Kruger nails the shimmery bronze smoky eye by lining her lower lashes with the shadow as well. Her pink lips give the edgy but natural look a girly touch.

Silver: Katy Perry

Katy Perry kept her silver eyeshadow from looking juvenile by blending it with a charcoal shade at the outer corners and completing the look with a bold winged liner and cherry-stained lips.

Combination: Kendall Jenner

Her eye makeup may not look crazy at first glance, but upon further inspection, it looks like Kendall's got gold and silver going on. The secret here? Keep the rest minimal. A nude lip was the right choice.
