C-SPAN Guests Get Surprise Call From Mom

by Abby Johnston

Taxes, women's health, big government. Those are words that can put Republicans on their knees. As for Ted Cruz, fiscal responsibility, 114th Congress? I can feel some Democrats cowering now. But for all of the partisan squabbles, there are a few words that cause bipartisan fear: "I'm your mother." Political brothers Brad Woodhouse and Dallas Woodhouse came face-to-face with that when their mom called into C-SPAN and told them to get along.

Brad helps run the Democratic super PAC American Bridge, while his brother Dallas is a higher up in conservative organization Carolina Rising. You can see where this is going. The bros were on C-SPAN talking about the documentary made about their family feud, Woodhouse Divided, when the Woodhouse matriarch dropped in to tell them what's what. Totally unexpected. Just when I had given up on ever being interested in C-SPAN, they give me this.

The caller was only introduced as Joy from Raleigh, North Carolina. Just as quickly as Dallas lit up at the news that someone from the homeland was calling into the program, he crumpled into a face palm when he discovered who it was. His brother, equally in shock, followed suit. I guess there are a few family ties left.

Joy: Well, you're right I'm from down South.

Dallas: Oh, God. It's Mom.

Joy: And I'm your mother.

If you've never seen two grown men flinch just from the sound of their mother's anger, this clip is highly suggested. Apparently, Mama Woodhouse is none too pleased with her bickering boys. And she took the opportunity where they were both together to school them. On live television.

I disagree that all families are like ours. I don't know many families fighting at Thanksgiving. I was very glad that this Thanksgiving was the year that you two were supposed to go to your in-laws', and I'm hoping you'll have some of this out of your system when you come here for Christmas. I would really like a peaceful Christmas.

Well, bless her heart! Come on, guys! All she wants is a peaceful Christmas! The host seemed in relative disbelief that Mama had made an unscheduled telephone call, but after confirming that the heavy Southern drawl was indeed their mother's, he took the opportunity to ask her what it was like to raise Woodhouse divided.

Well, it hasn't been easy.

I don't doubt it for a second, ma'am.
