At 2014 'PEOPLE' Magazine Awards, Kate Upton, Nicole Richie and More Made Black The New Black

Black was the new black at the 2014 PEOPLE Magazine Awards. Despite it being mid-December and the height of the holiday season, most of the A-listers who stepped out weren't festive or colorful with their ensembles. All-black was the celeb style trend at the 2014 PEOPLE Awards, with Karlie Kloss, Kate Upton, Nicole Richie, and more going monochromatic and dark.

But it was not fashion doom and gloom due to all that black. Each black-clad celeb offered her own take on the classic shade with a variety of cuts and silhouettes.

There were some non-black looks, with Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwen Stefani leading the charge by opting for more neutral shades.

These were the best of the all-black looks (and beyond) at the event.

Nicole Richie

The style maven and reality TV queen donned a loose black pantsuit with sheer sleeves and a somewhat deep V.

Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting

The Big Bang Theory star’s high collar black dress with a flirty trumpet hem was party-ready. The embellished neck region drew the eye upward to her pixie, too.

Karlie Kloss

The supermodel showed off her shoulders in a strapless LBD with a longer-than-knee-length with a lacy skirt. It was ladylike but not dowdy. I want one for my closet.

Elisabeth Moss

The actress was so high fashion with her zig zag formation LBD and matching red accessories. The clutch and heels, along with her lipstick, added a major pop of color.

Kate Upton

Upton opted for black leather and her belted shirtdress screamed “Bombshell!” without being tough, as can be the case with black leather.

Ariel Winter

Check out the Modern Family star’s black pantsuit with white trim! The bustier top and the hit-at-the-ankle length was so, well, modern. And to think she is just 16 and already showing this kind of style know-how.

Amber Rose

The voluptuous model wore a painted-on LBD (long instead of little) with a keyhole bodice that showed just enough cleavage. The statement shoulders looked a bit like wings, no?

Lisa Kudrow

The former “Friend” also went with an LBD with long sleeves.

Kate Hudson

The newly-single actress was back in boho chic form with tumbling waves and a flowy, belted, and one-shoulder goddess maxi in our first non-noir look of the evening.

Jennifer Lopez

La Lopez went retro with a shimmering, ’70s-style, nude-gold pantsuit with massive bell bottom legs. It also dangerously revealed some sideboob and the fabric clung to her booty.

Chloe Grace Moretz

The teen star bucked the all-black trend with her flirty, bone-colored party dress. The only skin she showed was that of her gams.

Gwen Stefani

The singer and designer broke up some of the blackness of the red carpet with her pearl-encrusted sweater and crisp and skinny white pants, as well as her platinum ‘do.

Mindy Kaling

Last but not least, funny gal Mindy Kaling provided a huge and hot pink dose of color with her way sexy, low-cut mini. The silhouette was wow-inducing and is a “must own” for all curvy girls.
