Better Use Those Delia*s Gift Cards, ASAP

by Erin Mayer

I hate to be the bearer of bad news on this fine Christmas Eve, but here goes — Wall Street Journal's Bankruptcy Beat reported that Delia*s gift cards are only valid through January 23rd. If you've been collecting them, better hit the mall to stock up on graphic tees and denim in every cut and wash imaginable because you only have about a month left!

The retailer, near and dear to the hearts of those of us who grew up in the '90s and early '00s, announced plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and liquidate assets on December 8th after a failed search for a buyer. In layman's terms, that means the Delia*s in your local mall won't be around much longer, to the great dismay of this particular Bustle writer.

According to WSJ, clearance "[s]ales are expected to run until mid-April," but, "gift cards, merchandise credit and loyalty programs will be honored until Jan. 23," after which they will be "about as a valuable as a piece of coal." Thanks for that image, Bankruptcy Beat. As if we weren't already sobbing into our vintage Delia*s catalogs, you had to go and get all Grinch-y about things. Not cool.

Instead of focusing on the negative, why not head over to Delias.com to plan what you'll buy with those soon-to-be-expired gift cards? Check out my previous article on why Delia*s is still the best after all these years if you feel like getting your nostalgia on. As for me, I'll be donning every tattoo choker necklace I can find and staging a sit-in at the Roosevelt Field Mall Delia*s location. Some of us just aren't ready to let go.
