Things Are About to Get Dark on 'Supernatural'

by Alanna Bennett

Much like most seasons of Supernatural, Season 9 claims to be mixing things up and throwing the Winchester boys' world into chaos. This season follows fallen angels and captured Kings of Hell to really make sure the Winchesters never have time to smile or breathe or generally be happy people. This is once again proven by Supernatural 's Season 9 poster, which features the season's main cast looking stoically pissed.

"Prepare for the fall" is the tagline brandished on the poster, which is a bit of nice wordplay referencing the fact that the top of the poster features some really pretty falling stars that are really Angels plummeting to a painful life on Earth. Yay!

This season opens with Sam (Jared Padalecki) in the hospital recovering from last season's aborted attempts to close the gates of hell. Dean (Jensen Ackles) is, as usual, at his side and contemplating messing up the world (and himself) in whole new ways to save his brother.

Really, though, there are no two angstier brothers on TV right now than the Winchesters, and the poster (which you can see below) shows that in its shadowy, strangely photoshopped way. The Winchesters stand in front of an old church, posing like the depressed but hunky pros they are, with Castiel (Misha Collins) and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) lurking in similarly brooding fashions in the background.

This season's going to be full of tears and violence and general scowl-y spooks, so buckle in for a roller coaster of pain! You can claim comfort in that this is what we all signed on for with this show anyway. Also in continuing to ask yourself if we'll ever see Sam Winchester's ears under all that hair.
