2 NYPD Officers Shot In The Bronx

Two NYPD officers were shot Monday night in the Bronx. The officers, whose names have not been released, were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where their injuries have reportedly been deemed to be "not life-threatening", the NYPD officers are being kept for tests and treatment. At this time, the area surrounding the scene of the crime in the Bronx has been shut down and closed off as police carry out a search for the shooter, whose identity is unknown and who is still at large. The shooting was reported to have happened near East 188th Street and Tiebout Avenue in the Bronx.

While it's unclear whether this shooting is associated with the call the officers were responding to when the shooting occurred, it certainly comes at a time when tensions are already high both within the NYPD, and in their public relations. A funeral was held for NYPD Det. Wenjian Liu just yesterday after he and his partner, Rafael Ramos, were shot and killed while sitting in their patrol car on December 20, 2014. And all of this is happening amid protests that have lasted for over a month after a Staten Island grand jury elected not to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death of Eric Garner, an unarmed man who was killed last summer. Not that there's ever a great time for any kind of shooting, but whether politically motivated or circumstantial, this does feel like an especially raw time in New York for another crime like this to occur.
