Joni Mitchell and YSL Team Up, And It's Perfection

by Eliza Florendo

I'll admit I nearly squealed my head off when I saw Joan Didion's ads for Céline. Bravo to you, Phoebe Philo, for snagging one of the coolest ladies out there. I love me some Joan in some oversized sunnies. And now, Joni Mitchell is the face of Saint Laurent. Are you kidding me? Excuse me while I damage my vocal cords forever.

As a frequent (and I mean, really frequent) listener of A Case of You, I can't explain how happy this collaboration made me. Dressed in a tunic, leather cape that Hedi Slimane, Saint Laurent's creative director, crafted for her, and YSL hat, Mitchell is the definition of cool, posing passionately with her guitar. Shot by Slimane himself, these photos and additional portraits will appear in V Magazine's issue this month.

This new campaign is part of the Saint Laurent Music Project, a tradition in which the brand features musicians on their advertisements. Past Music Project stars include Courtney Love, Marilyn Manson, and Kim Gordon, all shot by Hedi Slimane himself. With roots in rock-and-roll, it's no wonder this luxury label chose the queen herself. Photos of Mitchell were taken in her Bel Air home in California.

It's an exciting time in fashion right now, with designers paying homage to artists of all ages and fields. A new standard of beauty is steadily emerging, and we applaud Saint Laurent's Spring/Summer 2015 campaign. Looks like we'll be getting more of a '70s vibe this coming season. And what's more in style than rocking your sense of style — especially at any age?
