Jennifer Lawrence Is Turning Evil

by Kate Ward

The last time director Gary Ross teamed up with Jennifer Lawrence to adapt a book for the big screen, it went pretty well. Yeah, we'd say Hunger Games, with its $408 million box office gross, did pretty well for the Ross and the future Oscar winner. So there's little wonder why Lawrence would be re-teaming with the director on yet another adaptation. This time, however, they're directing their focus off the the current bestsellers chart. Deadline reports that the duo will be working together on an adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel East of Eden .

According to Deadline, the book is Ross' favorite, and though the novel was already adapted in 1955 by Eliza Kazan, it's still ripe for remake. Lawrence would play the main female role in the book, Cathy Ames, who also happens to be the most evil character in the book.

Lawrence, the beloved actress who charmed our pants off in Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook, and the podium at the Oscars, evil? Well, she's just that good of an actress, folks. In fact, Lawrence seems perfect for the role — Cathy is known in the book for her ability to attract men with her looks and charm... before tearing their lives apart, that is.

Of course, the man-eater role doesn't quite sound in tune with most work from the actress, who surged to fame after playing YA feminist icon Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games franchise. But Cathy is also East of Eden's strongest character, one who's as confident and shrewd as she is cruel. Still, the thought of the undeniably likable Lawrence playing unlikable?
