Why, Keira Knightley? Why?

With cult favorite films like Pride and Prejudice and Love Actually under her belt, everyone knows who Keira Knightley is. And honestly? It's hard not to love her. She's a talented actress, nominated for her role in The Imitation Game for this year's Golden Globes. Oh, and she's newly pregnant. It's an exciting year for Knightley to say the least. Given all of this, everyone was eagerly anticipating what Knightley would wear on the Globes' red carpet for 2015. And then the Chanel butterfly dress happened.

When I first spotted a clip of Knightley's dress, all I saw of the gown was from the bust up. When it comes to most dresses, usually this isn't that bad; that's only about 10 percent of the dress after all, right? Wrong. You see, when I look at Knightley's dress from the bust up, you know what I think? "Oh, there was a Project Runway competition based on creating a gown from baby's clothing." I mean, I know she's pregnant and all... but no. Just no.

And the same top part of the dress? Oh, it's mirrored at the bottom of the dress too. Because one giant doily, it seems, was just not enough. The worst part of all of this is that we haven't even gotten to the worst part. What could be worse than baby clothes and doilies on a gown, you ask? Butterflies. Butterflies everywhere. Everywhere. There was even a giant butterfly attached to the actress' clutch that appeared as if it could actually take flight at any given moment. Slightly terrifying, actually.

To be fair, Knightley did say that the gown took 30 people to make and, yes, it is Chanel. And as fashion goes, Chanel kind of knows what its doing, I guess. But I can't help but feeling like something went very, very wrong here and all I'm left is asking myself, "Why?" Why, Keira? Why didn't someone talk you off the butterfly-covered, baby clothes-trimmed edge? Sigh. The questions that keep me up at night.
