Is Rihanna Performing at the Grammys?

by Alex Kritselis

Are you ready for this? Rihanna could be performing at the 2015 Grammys. Well, that's what her drummer, Aaron Drape, seemed to suggest on Instagram last week, anyway. Finally, something to (possibly) look forward to! It's been two years, one month, and 24 days since the release of the 26-year-old pop superstar's last album, Unapologetic, and she has yet to share any meaningful details about her new album, "R8," with fans. At this point, we'll take any scrap of information we can get!

On Friday, Jan. 9, Drape responded to an Instagram user who asked him if he would be performing at the upcoming 57th Annual Grammy Awards by writing, "Yup yup." (Wherever Rihanna goes, her drummer goes... right?). However, according to Idolator, once the Princess of Pop's fans got wind of this information, Drape deleted his comment and changed his Instagram profile to private. Hmm... very suspicious!

It would make sense that Rihanna might want to premiere her new single at the Grammys. After all, the strategy worked out pretty well for her pal, Katy Perry, in the past. After Perry debuted her song "Part of Me" at the awards show in 2012 with over 39 million people watching, it shot straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Whoa. Check out Drape's Instagram comment below. (Click to expand the tweet so you can see the entire screenshot.)

Of course, it's important to keep in mind that, like most things R8-related, this information is totally unconfirmed. We still basically have no idea what's going on. At the end of November, Rihanna wrote the following tweet:

I mean, OK, Rih, I hear you... but you haven't really given us any news yet (aside from two very short studio snippets). Is info coming soon or nah? Is R8 coming out in 2015 or nah? Are you ever coming back to music or nah? Juuust curious. Write back soon!

Of course, the reality of the situation is that Rihanna is a legend who deserves to work at her own pace — I'm just incredibly impatient. Even if R8 doesn't come out until, like, 2046 or something, you know my old ass will still be dying to buy it. You know I'll still be reppin' the Navy — I don't think anything could change that. But Rihanna, if you're reading this right now, please, just give us a sign! Are you really performing at the 2015 Grammys... or nah?

Something tells me we'll have to wait until Feb. 8 to find out.
