It's Time to Learn Some More About Lorde

You've probably heard some of the hype around Lorde; it's probably all over your Facebook or Twitter feeds, and you're probably tired of it. But really, have you listened to her music? Seen her hair? The girl's pretty cool, and she is blowing up the music scene right now. As part of her new-found fame, she also found herself in the company of omnipresent host-elf Ryan Seacrest recently, giving an interview with On Air With Ryan Seacrest, wherein Lorde revealed some things about her history and her views on pop music.

Let's start this off by saying that if you haven't listened to Lorde's debut album Pure Heroine yet, you should really get on that, and you can listen to the full thing here. And if you haven't yet admired her hair, all you have to do is look at the picture.

Now that that's out of the way, here's some of what we learned about Lorde from her interview with Seacrest:

• She was discovered four years ago, when she was 12 (yes, she's only 16 now, you can stew in prodigy-induced jealousy with the rest of us). “I sang at my school talent show and my record company saw [a video] and they approached me," she recalls.
• Her real name is Ella.
• Her first hit, "Royals," was written with "some guy named Joel," and is what really set things in motion for her.
• She had this to say about "Royals": "I don’t even know if you can get Grey Goose in New Zealand.”

Unless Lorde (or, rather, the music-buying populace) somehow breaks our hearts turns into a one-album wonder, this seems like the very beginnings of the groundwork for a pretty successful career. I'd get used to seeing Lorde around: That big hair, those huge eyes, and that voice are a compelling package.

The fact that she's only 16 and already producing music like this? Seems she might be as gold as the teeth of those rappers she sings about in "Royals."
