How'd This 'Orphan Black'/'Downton' Duo Meet?

by Daniela Cabrera

'Tis the season for the long awaited fifth season of Downton Abbey, and I have been quite happy nestled up, watching the drama of our favorite upper class Grantham family and all of their juicy secrets unfold. Personally, I am a huge fan of Lord Gillingham and now, the actor who portrays him, Tom Cullen. Have you seen those deep brown eyes? Naturally, I was interested to see if Cullen had a leading lady love of his own outside of the Abbey, and it turns out he's got himself a really incredible one in Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany. So, how did Tatiana Maslany and Tom Cullen meet and become this gorgeous and talented power couple?

The first press photos of Maslany and Cullen together were at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival in September of that year, where Maslany was named one of TIFF's "Rising Stars" for her film, Picture Day. According to the New York Post though, the couple met on the set of television mini-series, World Without End. The eight-episode series set in England in the 1300's featured Cullen as a brooding fighter and Maslany as a nun! The show began filming in July 2011 ahead of an October 2012 release date, so that's probably when the couple first met. Seriously, is there anything sexier than meeting your potential boo when each of you is covered in dirt and dressed in a nun's habit? I think that's how you know it's real.

In fact, in 2013 Maslany commented to Esquire on her past dating experiences, saying, "Most of my dates have been friends that then became a date scenario." I venture to think that this might be the way it happened here. They were co-stars and became friends which eventually ended lead to a "date scenario" and led them to posing together at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In early 2014, after Maslany's exciting Golden Globes nomination for her amazing role on Orphan Black, Cullen had some proud and bold statements about her playing seven different characters on one show. He told the New York Post, "She’s the only actor I know who can do that... She’s in Meryl Streep territory. She’s really magic." He just called her magic and I am swooning. I don't know about you, but I think these two have a long future of love and success ahead of them.
