Great Quotes from Oscar Nominee Emma Stone

by Keertana Sastry

Awards season is still underway but one of the biggest moments has arrived: the 2015 Oscar nominations were announced Thursday morning. Presenters Chris Pine, JJ Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron announced quite a few obvious names like Michael Keaton, Eddie Redmayne, Julianne Moore and Patricia Arquette as they all won Golden Globes for their performances. And as always, there were the some snubs like Best Actress hopeful Jennifer Aniston for Cake, Selma's director Ava DuVernay, and do not get me started on the lack of female writers and directors and diversity in general in the main nominee list, with the exception of Birdman's director Alejandro González Iñárritu. But let's try to focus on the happiest moments of the nominations list. From her hilarious jokes about co-stars to her heartfelt moments about her career and feminism, Best Supporting Actress nominee Emma Stone can't be beat when it comes to pithy quotes.

It seemed pretty obvious thanks to her Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations that come Thursday morning, her name would be called. But can we talk about how awesome it is that Emma Stone is now an Oscar nominee? The very same Emma Stone whose first major splash on film was in Superbad, a film where Jonah Hill drunkenly head-butted her. (It's even more hilarious to think of this moment now that Jonah Hill is actually a two-time Oscar nominee). Stone deserves her nomination for her stellar work in Birdman, and I can't wait to see what great quotes she still has up her sleeve for the rest of the 2015 awards season, especially what her reaction will be about her first Oscar nod.

But for now, let's go back over her great moments on red carpets, in interviews and lines from her best roles to date.

Here's How She Handles Questions About Her Golden Globes Nod

By the time she got to the Golden Globes, Stone had probably been asked this exact question approximately 349584 times. Plus, what kind of question is this really? Obviously she's pumped to get a nod, she's not Joaquin Phoenix. But Stone played this moment out hilariously and with class so as not to come off stuck up and disrespectful.

A Great Line From Easy A & Possibly Stone's Oscar Nod Reaction

Just a friendly suggestion to Emma Stone this is also how you should respond to your Oscar nomination. You're not crying, you just have a branch in your eye.

This

I know that technically this is not a direct quote from Emma because she's lip-syncing songs, but can we stop to remember the brilliance of her song choices and her general attitude while performing? No wonder she's on Broadway at the moment.

Emma Stone On Jennifer Lawrence

She is so inspiring to me and I am so grateful that she exists in the world, as someone who is authentic and who has not bent to fit any idea of what a woman should be in that kind of a position. And she is so talented.

In an interview with Sylist in April 2014, Emma Stone revealed that like us, she has a bit of a girl crush on Jennifer Lawrence. Because seriously at this point, who doesn't?

Stone's Response To Andrew Garfield's "Feminine" Comment

He might be her boyfriend but that doesn't mean Stone is going to let Andrew Garfield get away with saying a sexist comment, even if he didn't mean to. When asked by a little boy how Spider-Man got his costume Garfield said "He sewed it... It's kind of a feminine thing to do, but he really made a very masculine costume." In response Stone asked how that was feminine, Garfield replied with "It's amazing how you take that as an insult." And Stone fired back by asking "I'm not taking it as an insult. I'm asking how it's feminine." Garfield explained what he meant and cleared the air a bit, but I gotta appreciate Stone for standing up for womanhood here.

One Of Stone's Best Lines In The Help

Honestly, I wish I could get away with saying stuff like this on a regular basis and still seem as awesome as Stone and her character from The Help.

Emma Stone's Response To Mel B's Video Tape

"Oh my God, is Mel B talking to me? Oh my God, I'm so excited, I'm legitimately crying. I'm the biggest Spice Girls fan ever." Even I loved the Spice Girls when I was younger but this takes the cake.

Emma Stone On Dieting

From her Glamour interview in 2011:

I definitely am not restrictive. [Laughs.] You're a human being, you live once and life is wonderful, so eat the damn red velvet cupcake.

I officially adopt this as my motto. Excuse me while I look for some red velvet cupcakes.

Stone On Her People's Choice Award Win

What do you say when you're slightly awkward and hilarious, you've just won a big award, and now you're in a press room with dozens of reporters asking you about your big win? You say this.

Emma Stone On Comedy

From a Vogue interview in 2011:

It gave me a sense of purpose. I wanted to make people laugh. Comedy was my sport. It taught me how to roll with the punches. Failure is the exact same as success when it comes to comedy because it just keeps coming. It never stops.

She might be wiser than she'll ever know. And that's why we are so excited for her Oscar nomination. That title will never go away.
