Robin Williams Officially Relevant Again

by Kate Ward

It's been quite a long time since the glory days of Robin Williams. Not counting an undeniably awesome cameo on Louie , the comedian has been experiencing quite the dry spell as of yet. Sure, he was goofy in Night at the Museum and its sequel, but RV, License to Wed, and August Rush were enough to get Williams fans nostalgic for Patch Adams, let alone Mrs. Doubtfire and Good Will Hunting. But, it seems, with The Crazy Ones ' premiere Thursday night, Robin Williams is back.

Credit the excessive advertising (about a show about advertising, natch), or the fact that CBS seems to attract the perfect demo for boomer Williams, or the fact that The Crazy Ones simply aired after mega-hit The Big Bang Theory, but the freshman sitcom managed to attract 15.6 million viewers. (Down from Big Bang Theory's whopping 18.9 million viewers.) That means Williams' series, which co-stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, trumped another returning movie star, Michael J. Fox, whose The Michael J. Fox show attracted 7.3 million viewers on NBC.

Perhaps more excitingly, The Crazy Ones' numbers mean good things for Gellar, whose previous TV series, Ringer, failed to make it past one season on The CW. Seems things are better for those who star on CBS — despite critical pans of shows like Two and a Half Men and 2 Broke Girls, all eyes continue to be on the eye.
