8 Normcore Things Cara D Made Cool Again

by Tyler Atwood

When a supermodel devotes herself to promoting a burgeoning trend, you can bet said fad will be covering the pages of Vogue within the month and trending on Twitter in 24 hours. Such is likely to be the case with Cara Delevingne for Tag Heuer (as in the watch brand) — after all, she does have an obsession with normcore fashions. From simple sneakers to cartoon-embellished tops, Delevingne champions down-to-earth accents as much as she does couture. A Delevingne street style sighting simply wouldn't be complete without the model's omnipresent beanies or bleached jeans, and the distressed look which has overtaken fashion blogs is a Delevingne signature as well.

Amongst the brands clamoring for Delevingne's creative support is Tag Heuer. The watch manufacturer recently tapped the top model to pose for the company's new ad campaign with the tagline #Don'tCrackUnderPressure, and though the legendary timepiece manufacturer couldn't be called normcore, Delevingne's involvement will lend the brand a more youthful feel which is currently lacking in Heuer's reputation. Based upon the model's resume of revamped brands like Mulberry and Burberry, it seems that the Tag Heuer brand may very well be a necessary accessory for 2015. Aside from Delevingne's designer wares, here are seven other normcore trends Delevingne has made into sartorial must-haves.

1. The Laid-Back Knit Beanie

After the grunge movement came and went in the '90s, beanies remained a necessity for those residing in cold climates... and forbidden fruit for anyone else. Enter Cara Delevingne and her array of printed, patterned, rainbow-embellished beanies, who breathed new life into the normcore staple.

2. The Old School White Sneaker

The old school sneaker trend didn't simply stride onto the couture stage out of thin air. Gone are the days when adding a sporty white sneaker to a suit was considered a fashion faux pas worthy of banishment. With a bit of help from Cara Delevingne's visionary perspective, comfortable footwear is now in vogue.

3. The Baggy Grandpa Sweater

Though a baggy, nubby sweater in a neutral shade is now considered a necessary piece in every fashionista's wardrobe, there was a time when such a look was considered sloppy and unpolished. If you're looking for someone to thank for the oh-so-cozy trend, Cara Delevingne is your target.

4. The Basic Black Peacoat

The simple black peacoat was a style neglected by sartorial influencers until Delevigne sported one with a scoop neck sweater and simple golden pendant necklace. Get ready to dust off the basic style, because Cara Delevingne says so.

5. The Slouchy Jumpsuit

A mere two years ago, jumpsuits were a relic of the '70s. A piece rarely seen on the streets unless utility was one's primary concern, the jumpsuit has been reinstated with the help of Delevingne, who makes each one she sports look like the most avant-garde item to grace the pages of a magazine.

6. The Matching Track Suit

This track suit is not your average terrycloth Juicy Couture creation, but matching track suits are the epitome of normcore style. Still, rendered in luxe fabric with splashes of neon to accent the look, Delevingne's tracksuit becomes a covetable item.

7. The Graphic Tee

Unless you were Seth Cohen on The OC or dubbed yourself a groupie for The Grateful Dead in the early aughts, concert tees weren't considered an everyday staple. Fast forward ten years, and Delevingne has helped concert tee's, graphic tee's, and cartoon-emblazoned tee's become a mainstay of the normcore movement.
