The National to Hang On 'Mindy Project'

The Mindy Project has only been on for a little over a season, but they've been getting huge guest stars from the get-go. Just this season, for instance, James Franco guested for a couple of episodes. As far as musicians go, no bands or artists have made an appearance yet — until now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the one indie rock band that everyone should know, The National, is set to make their Mindy Show debut in tonight's episode, portraying themselves headlining a fictional music festival that Mindy attends.

As for how this little cameo came to be — apparently, lead singer Matt Berninger and his wife, former New Yorker editor Carin Besser, are huge fans of the series, as are the other National band members Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Bryan Devendorf, and Scott Devendorf. When word got to producers that The National were fans, they were immediately invited to be on the show. The rest, of course, is history.

The National's cameo will just take place during the festival and will feature the band performing their song, "This Is the Last Time," which is off their new album Trouble Will Find Me. If you've never familiarized yourself with The National — or if you have and just want to re-listen because this song is just so damn good — I've attached it below.

Spoiler alert: This song will reportedly play during a "failed marriage proposal" scene between Danny and Morgan. Innnnnteresting. With its lyrics like "Oh, but your love is such a swamp/ You're the only thing I want/ And I said I wouldn't cry about it," this might not end well.
