Abercrombie Offends Again

by Emma Cueto

Remember that time Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mark Jeffries said that fat kids could never be cool enough to wear their clothes? And then the company had to sort of apologize because everyone was so mad they were giving Abercrombie and Fitch away to homeless people and talking about boycotts? Well, they still aren’t making plus sizes. Not even for their new line of shirts with anti-bullying messages.

The company has come out with three shirts, one for men and two for women, with messages like “Bros Before Bullies” and “Make Bullying Extinct.” Which are not really the coolest anti-bullying messages we’ve ever heard, but at least they’re trying.

Or rather, pretending to try. The company still doesn’t make plus sized shirts, which means that any good intentions they might have had are totally nullified by the fact that they themselves are still being bullies, excluding certain kids because they think those kids have a fundamental inability to be cool. As if overweight teens don't have enough to deal with.

So nice try, Abercrombie & Fitch, but you are fundamentally missing the point. You should have quit while you were forgotten.
