Nicola Formichetti Debuts Nicopanda

by Hayli Goode

Nicola Formichetti is known for his wild fashion sensibilities. His resume includes acting as Lady Gaga's stylist (need we say more?), creative director of Mugler, creative director of Diesel, and now he can add his own somewhat eponymous line to the mix. Nicola Formichetti launched Nicopedia, his own line based off a nickname.

The stylist-turned-designer first debuted Nicopanda in the fall, but you can now shop his latest, Harajuku sportswear-inspired collection at trendy New York City outpost Opening Ceremony. The line includes pieces adorned with bows and frills. Each garment typically keeps the same color and hue, but uses extra fabric to create hearts and ribbons on the shirts and pants. Formichetti kept the silhouettes loose and used sheer fabric for many of the pants, skirts, and ruffled boxer shorts. That's right: You're favorite bedtime outfit just got acceptable to wear in public. Thank you oh so much, Mr. Formichetti!

His wares will be offered, as mentioned earlier, at Opening Ceremony, as well as at special pop-up stores in New York and Los Angeles. It will also appear in the potentially groundbreaking gender-neutral Selfridges pop-up stores, called "Agender." This is clearly a big moment for the designer, who warned Style.com that we can expect to see many "colorful" things from him at NYFW this year.

I, for one, can't wait.
