A Wish List For Katy's Halftime Performance

by Nicole Pomarico

If you aren't already aware that Katy Perry is performing at this year's Super Bowl halftime show, I regret to inform you that you may currently be living under a rock: news about this performance has been everywhere! I've always been a huge fan of Perry's, from the "I Kissed a Girl" days all the way to crying behind my 3D, cotton candy scented glasses while seeing Part of Me on opening night. Perry is nothing if not an entertainer — this is an obvious fact. I have no doubt in my mind that her contribution to football's biggest night is going to be absolutely flawless, but there are a certain few things I'm hoping to see when she takes the stage.

Of course, there are certain completely totally out of the box things she could do to make her performance unforgettable, and chances are she'll throw a few of those elements in. What I'm hoping for, though, is that it's unequivocally good— good in a way that's loyal to both her longtime fans and the casual folks who bop their heads along to "Birthday" when it comes on the radio. Here are a few suggestions for the big game day:

Make sure the medley includes both old & new songs

As great as her newer stuff from Prism is, in order to achieve the complete Perry experience, I'd like to see her include stuff that goes all the way back to her debut album — especially if "Thinking of You" is involved. Bonus points if she manages to reimagine her older songs in a new way, or make sure every song in the medley fits together in a way that tells a story meant to inspire us, make us cry, or both.

Tons of costume changes

Because it wouldn't be a Katy Perry performance without them — and even though her look has matured, I want at least one of them to be crazy and/or candy-themed.

Fireworks

Mostly when she's performing "Firework." Because, duh.

A remix of "Get Ur Freak On"

It was announced today that Missy Elliot is going to be Perry's surprise guest, so this seems natural to me. Who doesn't love a little thrashing around to "Get Ur Freak On" in the middle of a football stadium?

Plenty of personality

What's truly great about a Perry concert is that it seems like she's singing to you in the audience. I'm hoping her genuine spirit really shines through, and that it doesn't come off as totally commercialized.

A big finish

Pyrotechnics. Confetti. N'Sync appearing on stage to join her for the final number (hey, I can dream). Whatever it takes, it needs to be perfect.
