Bradley Cooper's Next Role is Another Violent One

by Alanna Bennett

He's currently celebrating his third consecutive Oscar nomination, but time doesn't halt just because it's awards season. And Bradley Cooper's next move may be Orphan X — according to The Hollywood Reporter he's in talks to produce and (maybe, probably) star. So what exactly is this movie, and what can we expect from it?

Orphan X is an adaptation of a yet-to-be-released book by Gregg Hurwitz, who will also be writing the screenplay for the film. As for what the book (and presumed future movie) actually entails, reports say it's a thriller about a "Nowhere Man" named Evan Smoak (presumably Cooper), who "helps others, sometimes through violent means," and who finds himself drawn into "a world of human slavery, engineered by a detective of the Los Angeles Police Department." The book's not actually coming out until February of next year, which probably means we wouldn't be seeing this movie until 2017 at the earliest.

A man who "helps others, sometimes through violent means" sounds like it fits pretty well into Cooper's wheelhouse — American Sniper was no stranger to violence, after all; nor were, now that I think about it, his characters in Silver Linings Playbook or American Hustle. As for whether this new project will result in an umpteenth Oscar nomination is of course yet to be seen.
