No One Likes 'Mistresses'

by Kate Ward

First, cougars felt the burn. Now, Mistresses are proving to be quite unpopular on ABC. The Alyssa Milano-fronted new drama, which premiered Monday, wasn't quite the guilty pleasure it hoped to be, pulling in just 4.4 million viewers.

The ratings would be welcome on cable, but, for ABC, Mistresses — adapted from the British hit about the other women — laid a little too flat. The debut was the network's worst-rated premiere since Combat Hospital bowed in 2011. (What was Combat Hospital? Exactly.) Seems The Office and Shameless continue to be the only British import that could successfully swim overseas. (Cheerio Coupling, Life on Mars, and so, so many more.)

The ratings don't bode well for Gavin & Stacy reboot Us & Them, which airs this fall on FOX, or, frankly, ABC's other fall series about the other woman, Malin Akerman's Trophy Wife.
