Dakota Johnson Didn't Wear Grey At The 2015 Oscars

by Erin Mayer

I confess: I attended a midnight screening of 50 Shades of Grey. While I expected to fully loathe the movie, one aspect took me by surprise. That aspect was Dakota Johnson. Her performance was delightful. I was sincerely charmed by her turn as Anastasia Steele, and she won me over despite all the problematic elements of the film — and many critics agree. Which is why I was excited to learn that she'd be presenting at tonight's Academy Awards ceremony.

With all the hooplah (yes, I'm 800 years old) surrounding the release of the 50 Shades of Grey movie, Johnson's Oscars ensemble was, unsurprisingly, one of the most anticipated of the night (or, at least, one of my most anticipated of the night). I was majorly impressed by all the stunning gowns she rocked while on the 50 Shades press circuit, and am so excited to report that her Oscars outfit did. not. disappoint. This girl has a seriously glam awards show future ahead of her.

Johnson rocked a sleek, blood red gown with an asymmetrical neckline, high slit, and bold crystal detailing across one shoulder. She complimented the look with a ponytail which, while maybe a little casual for such a fancy event, worked due to the face-framing bangs. And, naturally, her Forevermark diamonds didn't hurt her cause.

Here she is with mom Melanie Griffith. I love the dramatic contrast between their two color palates. So glam!
