'Catching Fire' Action Scenes are Intense

by Lindsay Mannering

With only a few weeks left until the movie hits theaters, the buzz is starting to heat up, and the first clip from Hunger Games: Catching Fire only serves to elevate that hype. The movie, starring America's favorite human Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Miley Cyrus's ex Liam Hemsworth, opens nationwide on Nov. 22, but The Capitol knows you just can't wait until then to see Katniss Everdeen and Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) in action. Jena Malone's there, too, as badass Johanna Mason.

The clip shows Katniss, Finnick, and Johanna in training for the 75th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell. In it, we see Finnick wield his trusty trident and thankfully, he looks a little less derpy this time around than he did in the first posters promoting the flick. Katniss looks fierce, as always, with her bow, and Johanna looks deadly with her axe. It's Hunger Games violence at its best.

We've gotten previous glimpses at the water arena, but this is the first time we're seeing a clip of the training and if this little tidbit is any indication, the film's action scenes are going to be more intense than ever. There are computer-generated fire people out to kill, for crying out loud — "intense" probably doesn't even begin to cover it.
