7 Celeb Mentors We'd Love to See On 'The Voice'

by Mary Grace Garis

We're about three weeks deep into the eighth season of The Voice, and we're already assimilating to the return of Christina Aguilera. This means that everyone in The Voice's current coach line-up is a recurring fixture. To recap, that line-up features the awesomeness that is Aguilera, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams, and, most importantly, Pharrell Williams' hats. Helping them out are a series of celebrity guest mentors, including Meghan Trainor, Nick Jonas, and Lionel Ritchie — because dreams really do come true. However, I can't help but already start to dream of other celebrity mentors we might see in future seasons.

What qualities do you need for a mentor for The Voice? There are a lot of factors — but being a celebrity seems to be a recurring one, and having a career in music is also preferable. So keeping all of those aspects in mind, I put together a short list of people that would really bring the show up to the next level. They'd mentor the hell out of aspiring singers, they'd add a line to those singers' resumes, and/or they'd bring a level of crazy that every reality show desperately needs. Personally I'm more intrigued by the last bonus, but maybe that's just me...

1. Lady Gaga

Gaga is slowly rebranding herself and shifting the focus to her impressive vocals, which is a smart career move. Her throwback album with Tony Bennett, and perfectly nailed notes during her Sound of Music medley at the Oscars, have made that perfectly clear. All this aside, we need another magnificent poppy blonde, so maybe Gaga can tag in after her American Horror Story stint, especially considering she has already performed on The Voice with Christina Aguilera before. I'd vouch for her — if only because, at the end of the day, you KNOW she'd still show up in the most bonkers outfits of all time.

2. Kanye West

Because everything he loves is the greatest thing in the world. Therefore he would make either the best or the worst mentor of all time: always overzealous and often taking credit for molding a singer from clay to Michelangelo's David. Because Kanye is an artist. Obviously. And also because his patented interruptions are so notorious that I'm pretty sure there would be public auditions that would be hilariously cut-off mid song.

3. Madonna

This is someone that regards Kanye as the "Black Madonna." I want Madonna and Kanye mentoring during the same season, so it could just be an epic clash of talent. Moreover though, Madonna IS an innovator and a pop icon for the ages; her inspiration is boundless. It would be a treat to get one of the most decorated veterans of music on staff.

4. Mariah Carey

Unlike some of the other celebs on this list, she actual has ~judging experience.~ Remember when she was on American Idol for a hot second back in 2013? Plus she's a larger-than-life personality and should really throw herself into a new project after this whole Nick Cannon divorce. So another singing competition song could be a good idea. Or she can make another Christmas album. Either/or.

5. Marilyn Manson

Manson is such a great relic from the '90s, and he doesn't really take himself seriously, so it could make for a good dark horse contender in an upcoming season. Or maybe this is just me wanting to see Manson in everything. Manson in Celebrity Apprentice. Manson in The Real Housewives of Beverely Hills. Everything.

6. Enrique Iglesias

He's just so pretty, and I need to see more of him everywhere. The last thing I remember is his Pitbull collaboration for a Jersey Shore music video, and that's not enough Iglesias in my life. There is no such thing as too much Iglesias in anyone's life. Plus, he's already been asked to mentor on The Voice once before, so maybe it's time to ask him again.

7. Avril Lavigne

You'd think she'd be way punk rawk for this, but she DID also guest judge on American Idol a few years back. Mentoring could be good for her, to show she has a mature side. Or not, because she wore a purple hoodie with devil horns during her short stint as a judge. Either way, I'd love to watch how that whole situation goes down.
