Usher's New Song Sounds Promising

Spring has almost sprung, which means that pop radio is about to become inundated with catchy, uplifting dance anthems. Case in point: Martin Garrix and Usher's new song, "Don't Look Down," is just around the corner. The 18-year-old Dutch EDM producer shared two clips of the upcoming track on Instagram this week, and let me tell ya, it sounds promising.

Garrix, if you'll recall, is the wunderkind behind 2014's smash hit "Animals" — the first instrumental song to reach the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in over 14 years. (It peaked at No. 21.) Impressive.

Usher, of course, needs no introduction — though, to be honest, he's been "off his game" a bit lately. Last September, the 36-year-old star delayed the release of his new album, UR, after lead offerings "Good Kisser" and "She Came to Give It to You" both underperformed. (He told MTV two months later that he actually never intended to put out the album in 2014, though I'm not quite sure I buy that.) Fortunately for him, his current single, "I Don't Mind," is doing well — but it hasn't managed to crack the top 10 just yet.

Could "Don't Look Down" help Usher make his triumphant return to the top of the charts? It's possible. Check out two snippets of the song below.

It's not much to go on, but I have to say, Usher sounds pretty great singing that big chorus of "oh-whoa-oh-oh's" (a pop music staple). Obviously, the track could go in a lot of different directions from here, but I think it has loads of potential. Ah, springtime. You're the best.

According to Garrix's Instagram account, "Don't Look Down" will premiere on Tuesday, March 17.
