Beyoncé's Planning on Crushing Britney

by Lindsay Mannering

Back when it was summer and everything was all cotton candy and coconut scented sunscreen, Beyoncé filmed a music video on Coney Island. Shot by Terry Richardson (ugh), the video featured Queen Bey riding the Cyclone, dancing on the boardwalk, and having a grand old time with her peeps. Now, two months later, we sort of have an explanation for the mysterious music video. According to Naughty but Nice Rob, Beyoncé will release a single on Dec. 3, which, wouldn't you know it, is the same day that Britney Spears' album Britney Jean will be released.

Evidently, the timing is not coincidental. In fact, rumor has it that Beyoncé has been recording an album in secret and plans to surprise her competition with a sneak attack this fall.

What. You didn't think Beyoncé was just going to sit back and let Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Britney Spears have all the fun, did you? Muahaha. As if. An insider revealed:

Many in the music industry have gotten intel that Beyoncé will put out a single in the fourth quarter, some time from late November to early December. It’s an official single and it’s timed perfectly to push out all the others. It will be out before the end of the year.

Miley Cyrus's Bangerz came out on Oct. 8, Perry's Prism drops Oct. 18, Gaga's ARTPOP comes out Nov. 8, and Spears' Britney Jean will hit stores on Dec. 3... it seems like there's hardly anymore room for another female pop album, but clearly, Beyoncé and Columbia Records would agree to disagree.

Not only are they aware of the competition, but it sounds as if they're seeking it out. Beyoncé's ambush has been perfectly planned, and there's no better way to prove she's the best in the business than by staring her competitors dead in the eye and crushing them, one by one.

Even though her four studio albums have each reached number one in the U.S., 4 was a bit of a disappointment. Instead of selling 7 million or 11 million like her previous records, it sold 1.4 million, so maybe it's the numbers that are motivating Beyoncé. Maybe she wants this album to be bigger and better than all the rest, and maybe she doesn't want anyone saying that it only did well because it didn't have stiff competition.

But it's not like this, her fifth studio album, hasn't had problems. The Hollywood Reporter claims that she auditioned 50 songs for the album and rejected them all, but if this latest bit of gossip is true and the single's ready to drop this December, Bey's found her stride and is more confident than ever her new music will be received well by audiences.

By entering the fray when she allegedly will, Beyoncé will show that, just like her love, she's on top. Bring the beat in!
