'iZombie' Is Just Rose McIver's Latest Cool Role

Zombies are not easy to like. They're usually pretty horrific to look at, they stumble around like they're drunk, and can often be found hunting human beings for dinner. You need someone off-the-charts awesome to make a zombie seem relatable and lovable, and that's exactly what Rose McIver brings to the role of Liv on iZombie, The CW's newest series.

iZombie is based on the comic book series of the same name, and follows Olivia "Liv" Moore, who is an intelligent med student on her way to becoming exactly who she wants to be. She attends a party one night that unfortunately turns into a zombie feast of brains, and she becomes part zombie herself. She gets a job at the coroner's office, which it turns out, has some killer benefits: she has regular access to brain food (literally), and eating brains allows her access into the corpses' memories, which also helps her solve homicides. Win-win.

Making a zombie seem like a victim of their own circumstance is no easy task, but McIver does it effortlessly. She makes Liv into the BFF we'd all want by our side, rather than the monster we should be running from. And it probably has something to do with the fact that she has grown up on TV and film sets since the wee age of three.

McIver is a New Zealand native, who up until now, was probably best known for her role as Summer Landsdown in Power Rangers: RPM. She was the yellow Power Ranger. She had a breakout role in The Lovely Bones, and has since had recurring roles on Masters of Sex and Once Upon a Time, where she played Tinker Bell.

Before landing any of these major roles though, she was a proud New Zealand local and took odd jobs or classes in between acting gigs. In a 2010 interview with the New Zealand Herald, she said she was also a part-time banana importer for Fair Trade. She also said that growing up in front of the camera is "nothing exceptional" and that her "worst nightmare is feeling overdressed." There you have it. It just doesn't get any cooler than McIver, folks.

Zombie tales are not new to any of us. They were right on the tail of the vampire trend years ago when the world was either Team Edward or Team Jacob. So in the current TV landscape, refreshing and interesting supernatural stories are the only ones that'll stick. Luckily for all of us, iZombie seems to be that kind of show.
