'iZombie' Breathes New Life Into TV This Spring

by Chrissa Hardy

Why do we need another show about supernatural creatures in 2015? Aren't we over this trend? I know that's what you're all thinking. And honestly, when I saw the first poster for iZombie, I thought the same thing. But this show is different. This is a zombie you root for, and the pilot episode has the fresh and vibrant life TV needs in the spring. But how many episodes of iZombie will there be beyond Tuesday night's premiere? Trust me, once you see it, you'll be ready for even more.

iZombie is about a brilliant med student named Liv on her way to the fulfilling and gratifying life she always planned on having. Then she goes to a party and all hell breaks loose — going from classic rager to zombie feast. Our main character s one of the victims at the party, and she becomes part zombie in what is possibly the worst hangover in the history of hangovers. She takes a job in a coroner's office, which gives her unlimited access to the human brains she requires to survive, and eating brain gives her access to the vivid memories of the dead bodies in front of her. This ability allows her to help solve homicides, giving her a new purpose in the afterlife.

The show's pilot episode will premiere on The CW at 9 p.m. ET on March 17. The network gave iZombie a series order last May, and since it is starting in the spring, there will probably be 13 episodes in its first season, which is also the amount listed on IMDb.

Any fan of the movie Warm Bodies, starring Nicholas Hoult, will be thrilled to see another zombie worth rooting for. Usually, this supernatural creature is often the enemy, and often pretty terrifying to look at, but star Rose McIver gives this zombie story a charming and warm touch. She is relatable, and all kinds of wonderful.

While the TV world might still be overflowing with monsters, it's nice to know that we at least have one we can support. Let's hope iZombie sticks around for a while.
