They might be on opposite sides in Divergent and Insurgent, but in real life Kate Winslet gives Shailene Woodley all kinds of advice. In an interview with NYLON magazine, Woodley revealed that she sees Winslet kind of like a "big sister." The Oscar-winning actress was even there for Woodley during Insurgent's press tour, which took quite a toll on her. Woodley received an email from Winslet offering advice and wisdom on how to push through the rough patches.
Woodley revealed,
She could see how tired I was and she wrote me the most beautiful email I've ever received, saying "Sometimes the waves are going to be so big you're going to feel like you're drowning. And someone, that reporter, is going to publish something and make you seem like someone you're not. And it's going to feel really s----y, and you're not going to be able to find air, and you're by yourself and there's sharks everywhere. The important thing to remember is, it's all waves."
I always suspected Winslet was full of wisdom. Actually, her advice doesn't just apply to Woodley or celebrities, it can be beneficial for anyone experiencing a rough time. Life is full of ups and downs (those waves that Winslet mentions) and sometimes the best way to get through the downs is by remembering there will always be another moment lifting you back up to a good place.
Maybe Winslet should write a motivational book? Or at least give some motivational lectures.
