This 'SATC' Quiz Is More Difficult Than It Seems

by Mary Grace Garis

Though we all love her dearly, I have to admit that Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw's platitudes still occasionally make me wince. As a writer, Carrie got props for letting her sense humor run wild — it's what made reporting the pitfalls of love and sex more amusing than tragic — and nobody can take that away from her. But in her every day jargon, there would be the occasional Carrie Bradshaw joke that sounds like a dad joke.

I don't know how this happened exactly, if it's always been like that or if aging has not been kind to Sex and the City . Whatever the case may be, an overload of puns seems more like the comical weaponry of your adorable but out-of-touch father than Manhattan's sophisticated It Girl who wasn't even OK with wearing a scrunchie in public. Maybe on a good day Carrie's punning is on par with "cool Aunt," but generally? The more cringe-worthy lines are reflective of your more cringe-worthy relatives.

Maybe you disagree, however, and think Carrie's still a fountain of wisdom. Alrighty, then. Let's try this out.

I've collected a slew of jokes, and it's your job to figure out who said it: Carrie Bradshaw, or your awkward relative. Answers are on the bottom, and good luck.

1. Who said this: "If you’re tired, you take a napa, you don’t move to Napa."

Carrie Bradshaw, or ...

... your dad on the golf course, rocking the khakis and tube socks, talking to his buddies about their respective retirement plans (he's really considering Boca)?

2. Who said this: “I’d like a cheeseburger, large fries and a Cosmopolitan.”

Carrie Bradshaw, or...

... your Aunt Becky trying to be hip and funny at Johnny Rockets?

3. Who said this: "I like my money where I can see it... hanging in my closet."

Carrie Bradshaw, or...

... your well-dressed brother-in-law who's currently filing bankruptcy?

4. Who said this: "People go to casinos for the same reason they go on blind dates: hoping to hit the jackpot. But mostly, you just wind up broke or alone in a bar."

Carrie Bradshaw, or...

... your Uncle Marty, who's going through a pretty rough divorce right now?

5. Who said this: “I was a huge fan of being anywhere you could smoke and drink at two in the afternoon without judgment."

Carrie Bradshaw, or...

... your annoying little brother who's having a little too much fun during his Freshmen year at Ohio University?

6. Who said this: "I used to think those people who sat alone at Starbucks writing on their laptops were pretentious posers. Now I know: They are people who have recently moved in with someone."

Carrie Bradshaw, or...

...your annoying hipster step-sister who just got a Greenpoint apartment with her totally too-good-for-her boyfriend and can't stop complaining about it?

7. Who said this: "I gotta do something to pull me out of my Mexi-coma."

Carrie Bradshaw, or...

... the caption on your cousin Madison's #TBT Instagram about how bummed she is to not be in Cancun for Spring Break anymore?

Stumped? Here's the answers.
