'Glee' Will End After Next Season

by Kate Ward

Last week, Glee fans shed plenty of tears over the loss of Finn Hudson, who was mourned in Thursday's episode three months after Cory Monteith's real-life death. And, now, Glee fans have been delivered even more sad news. Ryan Murphy, speaking at an FX Networks Paley Center event Wednesday, confirmed that Season 6 would be Glee 's final season. (The series, which is currently in its fifth season, was renewed for two more seasons in April.)

According to the Glee creator, however, the cast and crew has to restructure Season 6 following Monteith's death. Said Murphy, "The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn’s story ... I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was – he was in it. I knew what the last line was – she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now."

So how will Season 6 be shaped in Monteith's absence? Murphy is mum thus far, but told reporters at the event, “I have a good idea ... I’m going to tell the studio and the network [in a week] how after Cory’s unfortunate passing we can end the show that I think is very satisfactory. And kind of in his honor, which I love.”

And fans — who watched the show deteriorate since its banner first season — might have to trust Murphy in the same way they trusted the creator with Monteith's tribute episode. Following "The Quarterback," which was well-received by nearly every Glee fan and TV critic, viewers might actually look forward to the show's final two seasons. Is it too late to start believin' again?
