Will Angelina Jolie Adopt More Children?

By now, everyone has heard that Angelina Jolie had her ovaries removed to prevent cancer in her second surgery for the same reason in two years. Her story is a terrifying and inspirational look at a reality that plagues more woman worldwide than we can even imagine, and it has come out to mixed reviews from those who sympathize, those who empathize, and those who don't understand how this is big news. However, a consequence of the surgery is that Jolie can no longer have biological children, meaning that Knox and Vivienne were the last of that brood. Does that then mean that Jolie will adopt another child? The answer there is maybe.

Even with the inability to have more children, it's quite likely that Jolie is already finished with going through the whole process of motherhood. (That is, with raising a child from baby to adulthood.) It has been seven years since the Jolie-Pitt family welcomed another child into the fold, and neither she nor Pitt have seemed in a particular hurry to do so. The pair only just got married in 2014; there doesn't seem to be some sort of Game of Life checklist they are going down that includes having just enough children to form a small soccer team.

On the other hand, that doesn't necessarily mean that the couple won't have more children later on. They could just be waiting for the kids that they have now to go off to college or something like that. After all, there was a rumor in January 2015 that Jolie and Pitt were adopting another child, one named Moussa from the Altınözü refugee in camp in Turkey. At this point, it seems like that rumor was nothing more than a rumor, but, if there's a kernel of truth in it, then we may yet see more Jolie-Pitt children added to the family.

There can be no way of telling whether the preventive surgery will make Jolie feel more or less likely to adopt another child just yet. She has six children already and stated in her op-ed that she was worried about making her children deal with her diagnosis, and terrified of never getting to meet her grandchildren. "I went through what I imagine thousands of other women have felt," she wrote. "I told myself to stay calm, to be strong, and that I had no reason to think I wouldn’t live to see my children grow up and to meet my grandchildren."

An impactful moment like that would either make Jolie eager to enjoy her time with her already existing family and watch them grow up into amazing young people, or eager to share the joy that she has in her family with another child in need of a good home. The most important thing is that her inability to have biological children will never mean that her family can't get any bigger. It just depends on having the inclination and finding the right time.
