George Clooney's Next Project Sounds Like Magic

by Kenya Foy

Brace yourselves for a rather exciting intersection between film and fashion. Per The Hollywood Reporter, George Clooney will produce Nocturnal Animals, which is A Single Man filmmaker (and fashion designer) Tom Ford's next film. The actor will team up with Grant Heslov to produce the film adaptation of Austin Wright’s book. Since the project is in its beginning stages — filming isn't slated to begin until sometime in the fall — details remain scarce at the moment, but it’ll be interesting to see how Clooney’s previous experience as a producer lends itself to this film.

While audiences shamelessly fawn over the actor's onscreen appearances as well as his much-talked about marriage to international human rights attorney Amal Alamuddin, the production work Clooney has puts in behind the scenes over the years is equally eye-catching. Although Clooney has extensive production credentials, one need only glance back to the recent past in 2013 when, along with Ben Affleck and partner in production crime Heslov, Clooney won an Academy Award for Argo.

As reported up by Indiewire, Nocturnal Animals is a thriller that explores two stories featured in a book manuscript a woman receives from her first husband and is summarized as follows:

Fifteen years ago, Susan Morrow left her first husband Edward Sheffield, an unpublished writer. Now, she's enduring middle class suburbia as a doctor's wife, when out of the blue she receives a package containing the manuscript of her ex-husband's first novel. He writes asking her to read the book; she was always his best critic, he says.

As Susan reads, she is drawn into the fictional life of Tony Hastings, a math professor driving his family to their summer house in Maine. And as we read with her, we too become lost in Sheffield's thriller. As the Hastings' ordinary, civilized lives are disastrously, violently sent off course, Susan is plunged back into the past, forced to confront the darkness that inhabits her, and driven to name the fear that gnaws at her future and will change her life.

Sounds super interesting! Is it totally superficial to expect a subtly sexy James Bond fashion aesthetic from this Nocturnal Animals? Perhaps, but I cannot wait to see if cinematic sparks will fly when Ford and Clooney get to work on this film.
