Bradley Cooper Behind The Camera For Next Project?

Exciting news for all you Bradley Cooper fans out there: your boy will apparently be moving into the directing chair for an upcoming film. How exciting, right? And I guess it also finally answers the question of what he'll do when he runs out of projects to costar in with Jennifer Lawrence. Although that's not entirely fair, because they do still have their next project Joy coming out this year. So maybe directing is what Cooper will do between J. Law and David O. Russell movies. It hasn't been 100 percent confirmed yet, but Cooper is apparently in talks to helm the reboot of A Star Is Born for Warner Bros. This oft-remade musical — the original came out in 1937, followed by new versions in 1954 and 1976 — centers around a naive young actress who comes to Hollywood in hopes of making it big and is taken under the wing of an aging alcoholic leading man whose career has gone to seed.

I didn't realize this, but apparently, Cooper has been on the lookout for a while now for a directorial project, and he and Warner Bros. have been a-courtin' each other in hopes that they can find a suitable collaboration. Cooper's production company with Todd Phillips has what's called a "first-look deal" with the studio, which means that they need to offer him projects before they offer them to anyone else, and it seems this one caught his eye.

But just because there's interest on Cooper's end doesn't mean that it will give the film enough oomph to actually get to set, as this project has been bouncing around the pipeline for years now. Initially Clint Eastwood was signed on to direct, as far back as 2011, and Beyonce (of all people) was set to star, but it lost momentum when she got pregnant with Blue Ivy, and Eastwood took on Jersey Boys instead.

The idea of Cooper behind the camera instead of in front of it is certainly one that will take some getting used to, but it actually makes sense when you think about it. Cooper's been in so many Academy Award-nominated movies at this point that he must have a pretty solid working knowledge of what makes a great film. At least, that's what we're hoping!
