Notorious B.I.G. Could Get His Own Street, But These Celebrity-Inspired Streets Are Weirder

As a culture, we have long revered celebrities, and our obsession has only gotten more intense. Not only can you buy 10th anniversary albums or the t-shirts commemorating your favorite stars, but you can also petition for a street named after your favorite person! There's a park for a Beastie Boy in Brooklyn, potentially a Notorious B.I.G.-inspired street corner (unless, of course, those noting that his lyrics promote misogyny and criminal background stop the dedication), and countless others that will make your head explode.

The Good, The Bad and The Odd: Celebrity Street Names

Joseph Stalin Street

There's not even just one Stalin Street — there are a ton of them. In Estonia, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, The Czech Republic, Albania, Tajikistan, Bulgaria, China and the United Kingdom, to name a few. Suddenly, a Biggie street doesn't seem like such a horrible idea, right?

Bob Hope Drive

Running alongside the NBC Studios in Burbank, Calif., is Bob Hope Drive. I can only wonder if, as you drive along it, people feel the unexplainable urge to sing semi-racist traveling songs à la Road To Morocco.

Frank Sinatra Drive

This homage to one of the greatest crooners in American history is, not shockingly, in his hometown of Hoboken N.J., but I'd venture to say that we might as well have called it what it is and changed the name to Secretly-Mafia-Funded Drive.

Korn Row

Yes, this is real, and yes, said aloud it would sound like cornrow. I would go to Bakersfield, Calif., just to drive down Korn Row, making jokes about cornrows all the way down.

Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter Road

A-yup. Head to Nigeria and you can drive down Jay-Z Road. Which is confusing because Jay-Z is not in any way Nigerian, but hey, maybe his lyrics just really speak to the Nigerian population in ways we can't even imagine. We'll never know.

Barack Obama Drive

This street in Dar-Es-Salaam was named after Obama's visit there in July. Interesting side fact though: Did anyone know there is a Mount Obama in Antigua? Yeah. Crazy.

Carmen Miranda Square

The square outside of Mann's Chinese Theatre in L.A is given over to the memory of Carmen Miranda, the Brazilian singer on whom the Chiquita Banana logo was based. So, next time you're looking down at the hand and footprints of stars present and past, look around you and think, actors and actresses are good and all, but where would we honestly be without Miranda's famous fruit headresses? Nowhere, there's where.
