Will One Direction Continue Touring Without Zayn?

by Kadeen Griffiths

No, you haven't heard wrong and, no, this is not just a bad dream. On Wednesday, Zayn Malik quit One Direction in a formal statement posted to the band's official Facebook page. The reaction to the loss of The Hot One from 1D has ranged from negative to devastated to, in some cases, wildly offensive, but everyone has something to say about the fact that the famous five are now a famous four. Of course, early signs could be seen as far back as earlier this month when Malik took a hiatus from the One Direction tour, but who knew a hiatus would lead to never returning? Now, the real question is will One Direction continue touring without Malik? The answer, in short, is yes.

How successful the band has been in performing without Malik during his hiatus is... debatable. Just Wednesday morning, we were all cackling over Styles trying to recreate Malik's high note in One Direction's "Diana." That moment now seems bittersweet by Wednesday afternoon when it appears that the only high notes we'll be hearing from One Direction are the ones Malik hit on the pre-recorded album, Four. However, they're going to give it their best shot to carry on the rest of the tour uninterrupted, just as they carried on while Malik was on hiatus. As the statement itself reads:

Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis will continue as a four-piece and look forward to the forthcoming concerts of their world tour and recording their fifth album, due to be released later this year.

That means that not only will One Direction not split up as a band just because Malik is gone, but everyone who bought a ticket to see them on the World Tour won't find their ticket suddenly worthless. Unless you only bought a ticket so hat you could see Malik perform. In which case... well, that sucks.
