Wicked Diablo Cody Inspired DIY Halloween Costumes

Diablo Cody's latest full-length feature film Paradise opens this weekend and we're excited to see what signature quirky places the screenwriter takes us. The film stars Julianne Hough, Octavia Spencer, Russell Brand, Holly Hunter, and Nick Offerman and tells the story of Lamb (Hough) — a young Christian conservative who goes through a crisis of faith after surviving a plane crash. And where better to test the lengths and understanding of your beliefs? Vegas, of course. There, she meets William (Brand) and Loray (Spencer) who act as her drunk and bejeweled guardian angels in the Sin City. Since Halloween, the Las Vegas of holidays, is fast approaching, we decided to share some easy last-minute Cody-inspired DIY costume ideas. Thundercats are go.

The Hamburger Phone, 'Juno'

One of the most memorable parts of the movie were the title character's use of a phone shaped like a hamburger. As soon as we first see it, we start getting an idea of who this girl is. And we were all intrigued.

What you'll need: Attach an old phone cord (if there's not one lying around your house, head to a thrift store) to a rubber hamburger dog toy. Once the hamburger phone is created, attach anywhere! Pin it to your shirt for a cute broach or attach it to a head band for an Andy Warhol-esque accessory. Pair it with a brown top and green bottoms, and kablam, you're a hamburger phone.

Charlize Theron in 'Young Adult'

At some point or another, we all go through a major personal crisis. So why not just work it all out in a Halloween costume? You might look like a hot mess, but at least you're wearing the most comfortable costume at the party.

What you'll need: Pink sweatpants, green zip-up hoodie, Hello Kitty t-shirt, oversized sunglasses, and a stuffed pup in a pink purse. Oh, and a general look of despair.

'United States of Tara'

Toni Colette is just the best, isn't she? Great, now that we've covered that, let's get to her hilarious turn as Tara — a woman struggling to survive in a crazy family while also handling an identity disorder.

What You'll Need: Head to your local fabric store and get a few yards of their most patriotic prints (it'll probably be on sale, too) and drape like a toga. Attach photos of Tara Reid, Taran Killam, and Quentin Tarantino — for the United States of Tara(s).

Michael Cera in 'Juno'

Well, when a hip pair of loner best friends in high school love each other very much....

What you'll need: Gym shorts, tall gym socks, and a sweat band. Get ready to work it out. And remember to mumble your words.

Jennifer's Body

Who wants to go as the same old sexy cheerleader cliche when you can be a POSSESSED SERIAL KILLER sexy cheerleader?

What you'll need: A white tank top paired with a pleated skirt. Add pom-poms, fake blood, and any array of (plastic) murder weapons. Don't forget to stalk your bestie!

'Paradise's Napkin of Sin

Bonus: this costume doubles as a fun party/drinking game. See how many times you witness any of the challenges or goals listed on the Napkin of Sin. Though, we don't recommend burning any flags.

What you'll need: Paper board, a black sharpie, string. Boom.

Diablo Cody, Oscar Winner

Celebrate your favorite screenwriter with the moment she became one of Hollywood's golden gals.

What you'll need: Cleopatra wig, animal print dress, press-on tattoos, and a little golden man (a spray painted wooden spoon will suffice).

A BALD NICK OFFERMAN

This isn't actually a costume. But, it's Halloween and we wanted to frighten the living daylights out of you.
