Did Ginger Spice Just Tweet Advice To Zayn Malik?

by Kadeen Griffiths

If you lived through the '90s, then you were there to feel the real pain of the Spice Girls breaking up. The pain started when Geri Halliwell, a.k.a. Ginger Spice, exited the group for a solo career and then it was all just downhill from there. Directioners are feeling that pain now after Zayn Malik left One Direction to pursue that elusive thing known as a normal life, and those of us who couldn't relate could at least relate to the painful memories of our own favorite bands losing a member and eventually splitting up. The fandoms collided on Wednesday when Ginger Spice tweeted advice to Malikmaybe— to get him through these hard times. I say maybe because she didn't actually direct the tweet at anyone, so it's pure fan speculation that this was done in response to the Malik news.

The speculation might be based on the assumption that Ginger Spice actually cares a pip about One Direction, but, hey, I don't know. I kind of assume that all famous British people know each other, mainly because One Direction has met Kate Middleton and Prince William and Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston are best friends. Surely, it's not a stretch to think that this particular tweet could have been sent out with Malik in mind. After all, their professional journeys are mirroring one another so closely — except that Ginger left to go solo and Malik is leaving to get away from the burden of fame.

That single tweet alone was enough to give me all kinds of feels as I imagine Ginger Spice establishing herself as a friend and mentor for Malik, to teach him all about life after walking away from one of the biggest pop groups in the world. Just take a trip into imagination with me...

She Could Teach Him About Girl Power

If there is one phrase that the Spice Girls made ubiquitous, it is "girl power!" They didn't invent the phrase, nor are they the only band to ever have used it, but it informed everything that they did during and after the band was still a thing. I'm not saying that Malik particularly needs a lesson in girl power, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still have lots to learn about the movement.

He Could Teach Her About Hitting High Notes

Again, it's not that Ginger needs a lesson in hitting notes. But I am still impressed by Malik's vocal range, and now all I want is for the two to release a track together. I'm not saying that Malik should just spin off into a solo career, but a song with Ginger Spice would actually make my life.

They Could Totally Do Lunch

You know, like all the other normal people who totally didn't used to be part of an internationally famous pop group.

Their Twitter Conversations Would Be Epic

Malik uses his Twitter the least of any member of One Direction. Imagine if all his updates, from now unto forever, are nonsensical conversations he is having with Ginger Spice. Possibly following up on things they were talking about at the aforementioned lunch.

The Spice Girls Could Reunite At His Wedding

Normal 22-year-olds don't have the Spice Girls perform at his wedding, but, hey. I don't think Perrie Edwards would mind. And I know I wouldn't mind. If they invited me.
