Pharrell's Chanel Salzburg Look Is Everything

by Marc Cuenco

Talk about dressing in theme for an event. During the highly anticipated Chanel Métier d’Art show held on Tuesday night, Pharrell Williams wore a military getup that was sartorially in line with Karl Lagerfeld's Sound of Music-inspired collection. It's this attention to detail and rule-bending swagger that earned Pharrell the CFDA Fashion Icon award, and the respect of the industry time and time again.

The hit-making producer and The Voice coach arrived to the New York presentation of Chanel's Paris-Salzburg 2014-15 collection—which debuted back in December —wearing a military hat, an olive Nehru-type jacket, and black leather oxfords. The look is somewhat reminiscent of Pharrell's formal shorts at the Grammys red carpet earlier this year, but with a lot more attitude and European flair. His wife Helen Lasichanh coordinated her look with an equally chic ensemble of a cropped jacket and shorts, paired with black tights and combat boots.

From the Grammys outfit, to the bellhop costume that he wore onstage to perform "Happy," to Tuesday night's Chanel Salzburg show ensemble, it seems that Pharrell is fond of pairing interesting headwear (R.I.P. this hat) with formal shorts. It's a look that only someone with an off-kilter and confident approach to fashion can pull off, which is exactly what Pharrell represents.
