Meet 'Election' 2.0: Fashion Edition

by Tyler Atwood

If you're at all familiar with the television series Girls, you likely understand that Lena Dunham's directorial style is rarely grand or fantasy-driven. In fact, Dunham's subtler methods are ideal for the filmmaker's most recent product, a short film entitled "Vote Audrey" promoting & Other Stories' collaboration with Rachel Antonoff. Concise, quirky, and innately chic, the film's teaser trailer is just enough to whet shoppers' appetite's for the full-length film and Antonoff's collection.

If you're expecting a five minute teaser trailer, be forewarned: the short snippet, which debuted on Style.com this afternoon, is a mere 14 seconds. However, a kicky suiting jacket, sharp frames, and an awkward encounter are all somehow crammed into the trailer. In my humble opinion, other commercials and promotional shorts could take a note from Dunham's book in terms of streamlining their brand message. While the complete short film will run a bit longer than 14 seconds, it is bound to be replete with Dunham's signature comedic realism — and hopefully more of Antonoff's sharp garments for & Other Stories.

Antonoff's aesthetic is an amalgamation of vintage elements with modern versatility, combining innately feminine details including flared skirts and soft pastel palettes with idiosyncratic patterns and suiting separates. The Antonoff-designed blazer that appears on Zoe Kazan in the film exhibits the same attention to detail, from the garment's streamlined stripes to its fitted cut.

Rachel Antonoff's & Other Stories collection will hit stores on May 12, no doubt to the delight of the designer's eager fan base. Antonoff herself explained to Style.com that the wares are inspired by politically-driven women campaigning for office who also happen to be incredibly fashion-forward, stating that pieces include "pretty and funny prints; easy, comfortable dresses and separates; and one mint leather jacket and pencil skirt that I am particularly fond of.”

Finally, a culturally and aesthetically-driven collection to celebrate.
