Hear Rachel Platten's Inspiring "Fight Song"

by Alex Kritselis

Need a little inspiration? I've got just the thing: Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" is the musical kick in the pants we all need sometimes. Think of it this way: if Sara Bareilles, Regina Spektor, and Katy Perry all sat down to write a hit together, they'd probably come up with something like "Fight Song." In other words, it's wonderful. Platten, a 33-year-old singer-songwriter whose music has been featured on TV shows like Pretty Little Liars , recently shared the story behind the empowering anthem with ARTISTdirect.com. Apparently, its lyrics are about her drive to "make it" in the music industry:

I was honestly going through a really tough time. On the outside, there weren’t a lot of reasons to keep believing in myself because I’ve been trying to do this as a career for a long time. I needed to remember I believed in myself and I wasn’t going to give up no matter what. It was this declaration that, “It doesn’t matter what level I get to do this on or who I get to do this for, I’m going to keep trying.” That’s the story behind it.

"Fight Song" is a powerful reminder that even when we feel hopeless (especially when we feel hopeless), we need to trust in ourselves, dig deep, and do whatever it takes to find the strength to carry on. The truth is, we're capable of so much more than we often realize.

I'm happy to report that "Fight Song" is shaping up to be a hit! It's steadily picking up steam at radio. The track is available on iTunes now. Check out its full lyrics below:

1st VERSE:

Like a small boat on the ocean

Sending big waves into motion

Like how a single word can make a heart open

I might only have one match, but I can make an explosion

PRE-CHORUS:

And all those things I didn't say

Wrecking balls inside my brain

I will scream them loud tonight

Can you hear my voice this time?

CHORUS:

This is my fight song

Take back my life song

Prove I'm alright song

My power's turned on

Starting right now I'll be strong

I'll play my fight song

And I don't really care if nobody else believes

'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

2nd VERSE:

Losing friends and I'm chasing sleep

Everybody's worried about me

In too deep

Say I'm in too deep (in too deep)

And it's been two years

I miss my home

But there's a fire burning in my bones

And I still believe

Yeah, I still believe

PRE-CHORUS

CHORUS

BRIDGE:

Like a small boat on the ocean

Sending big waves into motion

Like how a single word can make a heart open

I might only have one match, but I can make an explosion

CHORUS
