Isabel Marant Has No Time For Celebs Or Twitter

by Marc Cuenco

Even with famous fans like Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift wearing her clothes, Isabel Marant doesn't buy into the celebrity fashion hype. While in New York City this week for the launch of her spring collection at Barneys, the French designer sat down with Fashionista and discussed how she feels about the influx of Hollywood-types, from Kanye West to the much hyped Zoolander sequel, making their mark in the fashion industry.

"Honestly, I’m not into the whole celebrity thing," Marant said. "Of course I’m always super happy to see my clothes on beautiful [famous] girls — I cannot say that I don’t want that. But as I said, my interest in fashion is to dress women." The woman behind the popular and often-imitated wedge sneakers also opened up about the importance of designing for all women, not just the ones who walk down the red carpet.

"I think what’s most important is the clothing and the creation, it’s not the people who wear it," she said. "I don’t feel the need to have the stamp of a celebrity to be successful." Marant's spring ready-to-wear collection definitely has the everyday, albeit super chic, woman in mind. But the designer also says that listening to music influences her work just as much.

"I always design with loud music and I love the energy of music," Marant said. "I need the tempo to keep the energy of the collection. I feel like I’m inspired the same way as certain musicians: when you sample different tastes and put them together to create something special. I’ve never been to Coachella, but I’d love to go." Oh, but if she does, don't expect Marant to tweet about it.

"It takes a lot of time and a lot of energy that I don’t have," she said. "It’s not that I am for or against it, it’s just that I’m not into it." See some of Marant's spring collection below:
