Are Feathery Lashes The Next Big Trend?

by Rosie Narasaki

I have to admit, I've only dabbled (unsuccessfully) in the world of false lashes, but that doesn't mean I'm not a huge fan of them. Whether you're wearing impeccably placed individual lashes for a fluttery or natural look, adding in some slightly dramatic feather false lashes, or going full out with rhinestones galore, they're a great way to bump up a look. Stars like Zooey Deschanel are known for using falsies to enhance their doe-eyed look, while stars like Lady Gaga are known for using them to enhance their crazy look(s) — but ultra-fashionable designer/model Olga Sorokina somehow got both the wild/editorial and the fluttery lash look down at the same time. How? Why, by using feather lashes, of course.

The lashes themselves are delicate, and placed far enough apart to give the impression of (very) exaggerated and spiky lashes — yet, since they're made from feathers, they still look light and fluffy (unlike some of the other dramatic falsies we're used to). It's a look that takes guts, sure — but I could really see it catching on.

Want to be first in line on this upcoming trend? Well luckily, there are a lot of fluttery feathery lashes already on the market — and here are some of my top picks.

Make Up For Ever Lashes #148

Make Up For Ever Lashes #148, $16, Sephora

These are certainly high-impact — but the tapered look keeps things from going too Big Bird.

Shu Uemura False Lashes Slant Black

False Eyelashes Slant Black, $21, Shu Uemura

These aren't actually made out of feathers, but they share that same fluttery editorial flair.

Inglot Decorated Feather Lashes in 26F, $16, Beautylish

A pretty darn spot-on match for Olga's lashes, if you ask me.

Inglot Decorated Feather Lashes in 62F

Inglot Decorated Feather Lashes in 62F, $13, Beautylish

Here's a slightly more avant garde take on the look — but they keep things delicate, and they won't overwhelm tyour face

What do you think? Will you be giving feathered falsies a try?
