Are Claire & Daredevil Together In The Comics?

by Keertana Sastry

Now that we've all at least received a taste of Marvel Television and Netflix's new series Daredevil, I think it's pretty safe to say that it's awesome. And while Daredevil makes numerous attempts to save the city from the hands of Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, Matt has time to romance Claire Temple, a "Night Nurse" (and The Night Nurse — it's a whole thing) who helped fix up Matt after his most gruesome battles against dangerous villains. Claire quickly becomes one of Matt's confidants, but ultimately, Claire leaves Matt in Daredevil Season 1 because she's unwilling to be a part of his dangerous life. But comics fans may be shaking their heads at this storyline because it straight up didn't happen in the comics.

In fact, Claire and Matt don't really even interact with each other that much in the comics. On the Netflix series, Claire is basically an iteration of the Night Nurse, a character from the Marvel Comics universe who helps superheroes recover from various injuries. Claire Temple is also a character in the comics, but she is actually a love interest of Luke Cage, who's also getting his own Netflix series soon. So yeah, we'll probably see Claire turn up again on his series and potentially even in Captain America: Civil War which pits superheroes against one another. So don't go crying foul for losing Rosario Dawson time just yet.

So who does Matt romance in the Daredevil comics? Well for starters, he has an on-again, off-again relationship with Karen Page, which the show has already kind of hinted at in the last episode of Season 1 and with Karen very obviously falling for Matt. Then of course there's Matt's relationship with Elektra, who has yet to appear on the series. It's probable that Elektra will make her way to Daredevil in the inevitable Season 2, but there's no definitive answer about that yet. In the comics Matt eventually marries Milla Donovan, a blind woman he once rescued, but unfortunately she is driven to insanity by Daredevil's enemies.

Before his romance and marriage with Milla, Matt also falls for a well-known Avenger, Black Widow, so if that storyline is explored in the Marvel shows and films, we could be seeing Charlie Cox get some screen time with Scarlett Johansson soon. (Uh, hi. That would be great.) That could also suggest that Daredevil will make an appearance in Captain America: Civil War, one of the Avengers films, and/or more, but I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch here. Still, I hope all of these things are true because that would just make my little Marvel-loving heart explode.
