Kelly Clarkson's Latest Cover Is Beautiful

by Alex Kritselis

Prepare to experience musical bliss: Kelly Clarkson and Josh Groban covered "All I Ask of You" from The Phantom of the Opera and it's beautiful. The gorgeous, soaring duet proves once and for all that Clarkson can sing literally anything and still sound incredible. While we've heard the 32-year-old American Idol winner cover songs from a variety of different genres over the course of her career, she's rarely tackled show tunes. Now, I'm convinced she needs to add a bunch of Broadway classics to her repertoire ASAP! Just imagining what Clarkson might sound like singing something like "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, for instance, is already giving me chills. (She could definitely give Idina Menzel a run for her money, that's for sure.)

I grew up listening to the original London cast recording of The Phantom of the Opera, and while I hesitate to say that Clarkson and Groban's rendition of "All I Ask of You" is better than Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton's, I absolutely think they've done the song justice. I wonder if composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has an opinion on the matter? Check out Clarkson and Groban's powerful version of "All I Ask of You" below. Trust me: you're going to love it.

"All I Ask of You" is lifted from Groban's upcoming new album, Stages , a collection of songs from famous Broadway musicals like Les Misérables, A Chorus Line, Carousel, and more. Stages is scheduled to be released on April 28.
