The Most Cringeworthy Promposal You'll Ever See

It truly is a blessing that we've all made it to 2015, guys, and by virtue of that, we have to make it count. We have to make a difference in this world. And by "difference", I mean that we seriously need to ban teenagers from promposing to each other before the human race officially dissolves in its own nonsense. The latest promposal debacle comes to you by way of this boyfriend's driving promposal gone wrong, wherein he attempted to set up signs asking his girlfriend to prom that he would then drive past for her to read. As you can imagine based on every teenage experience you ever had, it went horribly and hilariously wrong.

I don't know why we are all so surprised by these #fails anymore, especially when you look at the track record of promposing shenanigans. Recently we had the girl who got her boyfriend arrested at school, and last year there was a guy who asked his girlfriend to prom with a fake college rejection letter. Even celebrities aren't safe: Dakota Fanning was promposed to by a guy who pretended he'd been in a car accident. Promposers, who hurt you?!

At least this driving promposal is as adorable as it is cringeworthy. Daniel, the boyfriend in question, must have put a lot of effort into this hullabaloo, considering how far apart the signs are spaced and the amount of time it took for all of us to go through this emotional journey with him.

For context, here's what the signs were supposed to say: "Alex. Will. You. Marry. LOL Jk. Go To. Prom. With Me." ("LOL Jk"? Daniel. Look at your life. Look at your choices.)

Here are some of the awkward highlights:

The first fail

So much trouble would have been avoided if she'd seen her name on the first sign, but then we also wouldn't have this deliciously awkward next few minutes to enjoy.

The brutal honesty

OH. EM. GEE. You can basically hear the awkward sauce squeaking in their car wheels.

The realization

At this point he'd confessed, and right here is like the climax of the cringe.

The tears

He'd saved the question mark for the end to give to her, and I gotta hand it to him, he was a total champ for continuing the sad gag.

Moar tears

I can't decide if this is adorable or heartbreaking or hilarious. Adorbreakarious? (Somewhere my high school English teachers are crying.)

The happy ending

Daniel turned off the camera while Alex was crying because he is a gentleman. As you can see, SHE SAID YES.

I have to say, as terribly wrong as this promposal went, it is a true testament to the endurance of this relationship. Obviously they have the ability to laugh at themselves, so props to them for sharing their awkwardness with the internet and making all of our days a little funnier. Have fun at prom, you crazy kids.
