Nick Jonas' ACM Performance Is Everything Ever

by Tracy Dye

Everybody stop what you're doing, because we need to talk about Nick Jonas' performance with Dan + Shay at the 2015 ACM Awards. It might have been the best thing I've seen since Bridesmaids. I know some of you may be wondering, "Why was Nick Jonas performing at a country awards show when he's a pop singer?" We all have seen Taylor Swift effortlessly walk the line between country and pop, and if that doesn't satisfy you, here's a second reason: It's Nick. Freaking. Jonas. The wildly talented Dan + Shay began the performance with a rendition of Jonas' first smash hit as a solo artist, "Jealous." The duo was absolutely killing it on their own, but when Jonas took the stage himself things went from awesome to OMG-WHAT-IS-HAPPENING-THIS-IS-THE-BEST-THING-EVER. There were spectacular harmonies, a particularly skilled synchronized kick, and the boys even walked through the audience via lighted catwalk to complete their epic performance with Jonas' most recent single, "Chains."

The only critique I have of this performance was that it wasn't at all long enough. Remember when Justin Timberlake basically performed a mini concert at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards? Yeah, that's kind of what needed to happen with Jonas on Sunday night. During that same VMAs performance, Timberlake also showcased a brief reunion with his former boy band, NSYNC. Obviously, boy bands continue to be phenomenal fixtures in the music world and providers of joy to us all. From what I saw, Dan + Shay may be in need of turning their duo into a trio, courtesy of Jonas (a boy band veteran himself). Who's ready for a new boy band? You can't see it, but I just raised both my hands.
