Taylor Swift Will Always Have A Place At The ACMs

by Kadeen Griffiths

Ah, the American Country Music Awards. There was once a time when I would have called it a great excuse to give Taylor Swift yet another award every year, but Swift has transitioned into pop music quite firmly since she first debuted on the scene as a country music artist. Luckily, in 2015, Swift received a Milestone Award at the ACMs — one that was, heartwarmingly enough, given to her by her mother — so they had a decent excuse to have the mind-numbingly popular star at the award ceremony. However, I think they might be out of luck when it comes to inviting her back next year, or the year after that, because it doesn't seem likely that Swift is going back to country music any time soon.

Oh, sure, Swift might have been criticized for attending the ACMs, but you would have to be living with your head permanently under a rock to be unable to acknowledge all that she has done for the genre. She has earned that Milestone Award, and many other awards like it besides. They may as well just write her name across a seat at the ACMs every year, regardless of whether they can actually justify her presence there or not. However, most country music fans are probably going to need a solid reason for why there's a pop star in their midst.

That's where I come in. Here are seven ways the ACMs can justify inviting Swift to the ceremony every year.

1. Win Lifetime Achievement Award, Every Year

It's like the Milestone Award, but with a different name! And you can give it to her every year like clockwork, because who achieved more for country music in their lifetime than Taylor Swift? Um, okay. Who achieved more for country music in their lifetime than Taylor Swift recently? Um, okay, just give her the award because I said so.

2. Begin Tenure As The Permanent Host Of The ACMs

She would be like Carson Daly, except this is the ACMs and not TRL. (Am I showing my age yet?) Sure, it might be hard for her to fit it into her schedule of concerts and appearances, but I get the feeling that Swift would make the room for it if they asked her to. She made the time to go, didn't she?

3. Hand Out The Milestone Award Herself

For bonus cute points, both she and her mother could hand out the award every year. After the 2015 ACMs, all I want is to see more of the Swift family everywhere all the time.

4. Hold It At Her Concert Venues

Instead of bringing Swift to the ACMs, how about we bring the ACMs to her? They could set up the award ceremony in the exact concert venue she'll be performing in the night of the awards. And then — obviously — she could perform after the ceremony is over.

5. Make A Complete 180 Back Into Country Music

Can you imagine a world in which Swift's next album is 100 percent country just like 1989 was 100 percent pop? Who says we have the right to put Swift in a box as a pop star? There's still time for her to get back to her roots and become the toast of the country music scene once more.

6. Have Her Perform Her Early Hits

If she performs one of her country songs at the ACMs every year, then we might be able to explain her presence at those awards for at least a decade before she has to write a new country song to stay relevant.

7. Model A Statue After Her

A little gold statue of Taylor Swift for the artists to take home from the ACMs? Why hasn't someone already done that?
