Remember These Jennifer Aniston Movies?

by Aramide Tinubu

We all know and love Jennifer Aniston best for her film role as the naive but loving business woman Rachel Green in the iconic sitcom Friends. We watched her on the small screen for a decade as her character navigated romantic relationships, built friendships and made huge strides in her career. Though Aniston was a virtually unknown actress at the time of the Friends series premiere, she has since become one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood and Rachel Green has been called one of the most beloved characters on Friends .

However, with her gripping performance this past year as Claire Bennett in Daniel Barnz’s Cake , Aniston quickly reminded us that she is much more than America’s sweetheart. In Cake she portrays a woman dealing with both crippling pain and insurmountable loss. Though we recognize Aniston for Friends and for her more recent roles in films like Horrible Bosses (2011), He’s Just Not That into You (2009) and We’re The Millers (2013), she has quite a number of other films during and right after the Friends era that you may have forgotten about.

From a '90s romantic comedy to a dramatic role in the early '00s Jennifer Aniston’s body of work is much larger then you may have previously expected. Here are 8 movies that you probably forgot Jennifer Aniston starred in:

Picture Perfect (1997)

Aniston plays Kate, a struggling ad-executive who has to invent a fiancé because her boss doesn’t think she’s “stable” enough for a promotion. Nothing like some casual sexism to base a plot around, right?

The Object of My Affection (1998)

Personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd. Aniston plays Nina Borowski, a pregnant social worker who falls in love with her gay BFF, Rud.

Office Space (1999)

I always forget that Aniston starred in this cult classic. She plays Joanna, a dissatisfied waitress who befriends Peter Gibbon.

The Iron Giant (1999)

So, Jennifer Aniston isn’t exactly “in” The Iron Giant, but her voice is. She provides the vocals for Hogarth’s mother, Annie in this surprisingly sad children’s film.

The Good Girl (2002)

In what is arguably her first “serious” role, Aniston plays Justine Last, an unhappily married cashier who has an affair with a younger man, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Bruce Almighty (2003)

It’s difficult to remember anything else in a film where Morgan Freeman plays God. However, to refresh your memory, Jennifer Aniston played Grace Connelly, Bruce Nolan’s (Jim Carrey) girlfriend who endured the majority of the fall-out when he's given God-like powers.

Along Came Polly (2004)

Perhaps you will remember this because of the disgusting and hilarious Indian food scene or because of the pet ferret. Or you may not picture Aniston as Polly Prince because the character was the antithesis of Rachel Green. Either way, Aniston plays Polly flawlessly.

Derailed (2005)

Jennifer Aniston co-stars with Clive Owen in this thriller as two business executives whose illicit affair gets them blackmailed by a criminal.
