Kylie Speaks Out About The #KylieJennerChallenge

Have you heard about the #KylieJennerChallenge yet? If not, you probably will soon, because it's everywhere. It's honestly a little disturbing to use questionable methods to attain larger, Kylie Jenner inspired lips. Just head over to Twitter and you'll see what I mean. Scary. While this isn't exactly the first time that Jenner's lips have made headlines (honestly, we're kind of just obsessed with them as a society at this point), it's certainly the most dramatic time. Kylie's lips are everywhere. But this #KylieJennerChallenge has gained so much traction that Jenner herself has even weighed in.

Kylie tweeted that her goal isn't to have other girls try to look like her, but just to be themselves.

"I'm not here to try & encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look," she tweeted on Tuesday, after the #KylieJennerChallenge almost broke the Internet. Jenner followed the tweet up by saying that she wants to encourage girls to "be themselves" and feel free to experiment with their looks. All good advice, right? Given that Jenner is only 17, it's impressive that she's responding to the "challenge" in such a mature way.

It's true; Kylie Jenner is only 17. But she doesn't look like she's 17. And I think maybe that's reflective of the greater issue behind the #KylieJennerChallenge. There's nothing wrong with "experimenting with your look," of course, but maybe for some young girls, this translates into "Well, if Kylie Jenner looks like that at 17, why can't I?"

The fact of the matter is that virtually no one looks like that at such a young age, but when you see Jenner's image everywhere on social media, it starts to seem attainable somehow. And that is certainly a dangerous idea to adopt when you're a young girl. But in any case, good for Jenner for standing up for girls trying to experiment with their own unique looks, rather than hers.
